RICHARD M. STAPLETON NAMED CHIEF OF EPA REGION TWO PUBLIC AFFAIRS BRANCH

 NEW YORK, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Richard M. Stapleton, formerly producer of environmental news programming for CBS News, has been named public affairs branch chief for Region 2 of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
 Mr. Stapleton originated and produced "Down To Earth" with correspondent Harry Smith, heard daily on the CBS Radio Network, as well as documentaries on the environment and other subjects. Prior to concentrating on the environment, Mr. Stapleton was producer of Charles Kuralt's "Dateline: America" and "Exploring America" radio broadcasts. He has also written recently for ABC television's "Morning News" broadcast with Mike Schneider, and has published articles in a wide variety of national magazines. Mr. Stapleton has taught writing as an adjunct professor at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and at Brooklyn College.
 The branch chief of public affairs is a newly created position, responsible for overseeing media relations, speech writing, and the handling of Freedom of Information requests. Mr. Stapleton will report to James Marshall, external programs division director. The E.P.A.'s Region 2 includes New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
