RHS Wisley: Dazzling and spectacular butterflies return to the glasshouse; The exhibit will run from Saturday (January 13) until March 4.

The dazzling butterflies have returned to RHS GardenWisleyfor another year providing a tropical haven for those who visit throughout winter.

More than 50 species of free-flying butterflies will inhabit the tropical Zone of the Glasshouse as they land on plants, fruit and even people.

This year there are more species for you to enjoy with the introduction of a Graphium doson (common jay), a black tropical butterfly with pale blue wing bands and a Paris peacock.

Garden manager Emma Allen said: "The Glasshouse at RHS GardenWisleyis the ideal place to visit during winter as we are bringing a tropical experience to you here in Surrey.

She added: "Breathtaking species, native to areas from around the world, have been carefully selected for our Tropical Zone, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to experience these amazing butterflies up close.

"Bring along a camera and see which ones you can find as you wander through our piece of tropical paradise."

Included in the exhibit is family-friendly education zone which will spark your imagination and enable you to learn about their life-cycle.

A spotter guide is available out to tick off the ones you see as you go along.

To celebrate the launch weekend visitors were given the chance to decorate butterfly willow sculptures before they go on display.

Children's face painting was also on offer.

The event is free to RHS members and a family guest and non-members can save up to 10% by booking online in advance. This will allow you to pre-book your time slot to skip any queues.

Butterflies in the Glasshouse runs from January 13 until March 4.

RHS Wisley is open Monday to Friday 10am-4.30pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am-4.30pm.
