 RG&E REPORTS FIRST QUARTER EARNINGS
 ROCHESTER, N.Y., April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Rochester Gas & Electric

Corp. (NYSE: RGS) (RG&E) today reported earnings for the three and 12-month periods ending March 31, 1992. For the 1992 first quarter, total operating revenues, including electric sales to other utilities, were $257,747,000, up $12,074,000 or five percent from 1991 first quarter revenues of $245,673,000.
Earnings applicable to common stock for the first quarter of 1992 were up $3,513,000, or 15 percent, from $22,780,000 in 1991 to $26,293,000 in 1992. Earnings per common share were up nine cents from the 1991 first quarter, or 81 cents compared to 72 cents per share a year earlier.
The company's improved financial performance in the first quarter of 1992 is largely attributable to the return to more normal weather conditions. The first quarter of this year was nearly 10 percent colder than last year, leading to higher energy sales. The total therms of natural gas sold and transported increased by approximately 13 percent for the quarter. Kilowatt-hour sales of electricity to customers were up by five percent.
As previously reported, revenue losses sustained during a severe ice storm in March of 1991 decreased first quarter 1991 earnings by seven cents per share, and overall weather that quarter was more than 10 percent warmer than normal.
For the 12-month period ended March 31, 1992, total operating revenues were $865,345,000, compared with 1991 revenues of $835,757,000 an increase of $29,588,000, or three percent. Earnings applicable to common stock were nearly flat, going from $54,058,000 in 1991 to $54,548,000 in 1992. Per-share earnings on common stock were off two cents, or $1.70 compared to $1.72 a year earlier.
