 ELECTION OF NEW DIRECTORS TO BOARD
 RICHMOND, Va., January 17/PRNewswire -- Reynolds Metals Company's (NYSE: RLM) board elected two new directors at its meeting today.
 Charles A. Sanders, M.D., 59, chief executive officer of Glaxo Inc., Durham, N.C., and Joe B. Wyatt, 56, chancellor of Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn., were elected to the board, increasing the number of directors to 16.
 "These individuals will provide valuable perspectives on issues of critical importance to Reynolds management, shareholders and customers," William O. Bourke, chairman and chief executive officer, said in announcing the appointments.
 Dr. Sanders was named to his present position at Glaxo, Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Glaxo Holdings p.l.c., a leading British firm, in 1989. He was previously vice chairman of Squibb Corp., general director of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.
 Dr. Sanders also serves as a director of Merrill Lynch and Co., Inc., Glaxo Holding p.l.c., Morton International, Commonwealth Fund and Mt. Sinai Medical Center.
 A native of Dallas and a graduate of Southwestern Medical College of Texas, Dr. Sanders is chairman of the New York Academy of Sciences and a former chairman of the National Council of Health Care Technology.
 Mr. Wyatt was named to his present position at Vanderbilt in 1982, after serving as vice president of administration at Harvard University. A graduate in mathematics with a B.A. degree from the University of Texas and a M.A. degree from Texas Christian University, he has co- authored a book on financial planning, co-founded Symbiotics International, Inc., a computer systems company, and holds data processing patents.
 Mr. Wyatt is chairman of the Committee on Math and Science of the American Council on Education and a member of the Executive Committee, Business Higher Education Forum. He is also a director of Sonat Corporation, the University Research Association, Advanced Networks & Services, Inc., and Ingram Industries.
