M2 BEST BOOKS-(C)2000-2003 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTDThis book not only tells the potential Microsoft Certified Engineer how to pass his qualification but also what the certification can be used for and the various different courses. Anyone who is either thinking of becoming Microsoft certified or is in the process of doing so would do well with a quick read or flick through of this book.
'Exam Cram 2 - Windows XP Professional' is broken down into a number of sections. The first couple of pages in the book offer a check sheet which the reader is meant to tear out and read up on just before they go into the exam. Included on this sheet are facts about Windows XP Professional that, according to the authors, the reader can write down onto a sheet of paper as soon as they begin the exam when the information is fresh in their mind. In total, there are 12 chapters and each one deals with a different topic such as installing and deploying Windows XP Professional, system monitoring, performance optimisation and recovery features and a sample Microsoft Certification exam.
What also impressed me about the book is the wealth of information that is provided in the introduction. The reader is informed of the different qualifications and exams that they can take as well as a bit of background concerning what should be known for each exam. Finally, there is a very handy glossary which attempts to document what all of the abbreviations that are used throughout the book stand for.
The included CD-ROM contains an electronic version of the book, utility and application programmes, a list of test objectives and a list of online sources and references. This helps to round the book out and ensures that any changes that have been made to the book in later editions are not overlooked by the reader.
CONCLUSION: With the cost of the Microsoft Certified Professional exam reaching USD125 any tool that helps you pass first time is going to be worth its price tag. At the cost of GBP21.99 this book will be more than useful to the potential Microsoft Certified Professional.
