REVELATION TECHNOLOGIES SHIPS POWERFUL WINDOWS DEVELOPMENT TOOL
STAMFORD, Conn., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Revelation Technologies Inc., the award-winning developer and marketer of database development tools and packaged business applications for network computing, today shipped OpenInsight(TM), a Windows-based application development tool that is "an exciting product for those of us who develop information systems for a living," according to beta testers.
OpenInsight, and the company's award-winning Advanced Revelation(R), provide companies with the development tools to bring mainframe-class applications to the desktop in multi-user network and client-server environments.
James A. Acquaviva, president and CEO of Revelation Technologies, said, "OpenInsight is the result of working closely with our customers and responding to their needs. They have told us they want to move their network computing to a Windows environment and retain all the power and functionality they are accustomed to having with Advanced Revelation, including data integrity and security. OpenInsight provides the solutions they need now."
The director of operations for a large organization which has been using test versions of OpenInsight called it "a landmark product on two counts."
Mark C. Bolgiano, director of operations, the Greater Washington Board of Trade, added, "OpenInsight brings Advanced Revelation's superior database and language capabilities to Windows developers who have needed them since Windows came out. It's the first product I've used that provides for both rapid application development and real database muscle in the Windows environment. It's an exciting product for those of us who develop information systems for a living."
OpenInsight includes both local and remote access capabilities. Developers can create complete database applications, or link to SQL Server, ORACLE and more to create powerful client-server applications.
David Cearley, Revelation Technologies' vice president of technology and planning, said, "OpenInsight provides a unique architecture and a powerful Windows development tool. It is built on our award-winning database engine technology and provides critically important features, such as an Active Data Dictionary and transaction processing control in a multiple database environment.
"OpenInsight provides the power, flexibility and ease of use needed to rapidly develop mission-critical applications, whether a developer is writing a stand-alone PC application, or applications for a local area network or a client-server environment," Cearley said.
Included in OpenInsight today are professional development tools and a robust 4GL. These allow the developer to create multi-user applications, specify two-phase commit transaction processing, and ensure referential integrity. OpenInsight also incorporates an Active Data Dictionary to ensure users a consistent and integrated view of all data sources, including dBASE, ANSI SQL, SQL Server, ASCII, and DB2. The dictionary also centralizes data validation rules and provides easy maintenance of applications.
During 1992 Revelation Technologies will be rapidly enhancing OpenInsight to provide such additional tools as a report writer. "We are committed to an aggressive series of enhancements to the product," said Cearley. "OpenInsight's modular architecture and use of object oriented programming technologies ensure rapid delivery of these updates."
Revelation Technologies is providing free quarterly updates and add-on utilities and a year of free telephone technical support for OpenInsight.
OpenInsight incorporates technology licensed from Knowledge Garden, Inc. of Setauket, N.Y., which has been integrated with Revelation Technologies' powerful database engine and extended to provide a complete development environment for multiuser network applications. The two companies have formed a strategic relationship to further enhance the base technology.
OpenInsight requires a minimum system configuration of 4MB of RAM, 10 MB of available hard disk space, a 386sx or more powerful processor, Microsoft Windows version 3.0 or higher, and DOS version 3.1 or higher.
The retail price for OpenInsight is $895, with a five-user LAN pack available for $1,495. As a limited introductory offer, it is available in a network-ready five-user configuration for $299. OpenInsight is available through selected distributors and resellers, including Distribupro, E.L.F., Ingram Micro D and Merisel.
