REVCO RAISES OVER A QUARTER MILLION DOLLARS FOR RONALD MCDONALD HOUSES

TWINSBURG, Ohio, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Once again this holiday season, Revco Drug Stores and its customers provided much-needed donations to the Ronald McDonald Houses in Revco operating areas. Through the sale of Holiday Nutcrackers, Revco donated $270,000 to 33 Ronald McDonald Houses serving thousands of families in many communities.
Said D. Dwayne Hoven, Revco's president, "We are proud to sponsor this fundraising effort. Revco customers have shown wonderful support for their communities by purchasing the nutcrackers."
During the four-week promotion that ended in December, Revco customers could select from a variety of seven different wooden nutcrackers at a cost of $5.99 and $9.99 respectively. For every nutcracker sold, Revco donated $2.50 to the local Ronald McDonald House.
Ronald McDonald Houses provide a temporary home-away-from-home where families can stay while their children receive treatment for chronic illnesses, such as cancer, luekemia, heart disease, cystic fibrosis and other serious medical problems.
The Cleveland Ronald McDonald House received the largest donation, $25,0000. Additionally, Houses in Atlanta, Ga., Greenville, S.C., Norfolk, Va. and Winston-Salem, N.C. all received $18,000 or more.
Funds donated to the Ronald McDonald Houses will provide Houses with many items and services needed by the particular House. Some Houses will complete household repairs, purchase needed furniture or help needy guests; all donations will be used to help serve the families of seriously ill children.
All of the Houses located in Revco's operating region received donations. Donations from Revco's 1,150 drug stores were allocated to Ronald McDonald Houses in the following metropolitan areas: Washington, D.C.; Atlanta, Augusta and Savannah, Ga.; Baltimore, Md.; Chapel Hill, Durham, Greenville and Winston-Salem, N.C.; Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Toledo and Youngstown, Ohio; Danville, Hershey, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Scranton, Pa.; Charleston, Columbia and Greenville, S.C.; Chattanooga and Knoxville, Tenn.; Charlottesville, Norfolk, Richmond and Roanoke, Va.; Charleston, Huntington and Morgantown, W.Va.
Revco operates more than 1,160 retail drug stores in nine contiguous eastern states, filling more than 46 million prescriptions annually. Based in Twinsburg, Ohio, the company has annual sales of $2.1 billion.
