REUTERS BUYS FRENCH SOFTWARE HOUSE

 LONDON, May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Reuters announced today it has acquired Effix Holdings SA, a major supplier of software for Reuters dealing room information management systems, from Paris-based Banque Internationale de Gestion et de Tresorerie (BIGT) for FF58.8 million (7 million pounds sterling) in cash.
 In 1992, Reuters took a 35 percent capital stake in Effix Systemes SA, Effix Holdings' wholly owned software marketing subsidiary, for FF23.8 million (3 million pounds).
 Jean-Claude Marchand, managing director of Reuters Continental Europe, said: "We are formalizing our association with the Effix group because it has proved an innovative and reliable product developer which has demonstrated a consistent ability to deliver quality products on time for the financial markets."
 Christian Nicaud, chief executive of the Effix group, commented: "This is a natural step in the development of our four-year relationship with Reuters. We both understand the strengths of a group like Effix regarding the huge potential that Reuters can offer to us in our future development. We will take this chance to push our competitive and imaginative strengths in order to be able to take advantage of all the new opportunities that will arise."
 Reuters has been the worldwide distributor of a range of Effix products, including the Advanced Trader Workstation (ATW), a top-of-the- range workstation offered on Reuters Triarch 2000 digital trading room architecture.
 Effix also provides risk management, order routing and optical storage applications on Triarch 2000 to more than 30 customer sites in Continental Europe and the UK.
 Triarch 2000 is an open platform allowing dealers real-time access to multiple applications and external sources of information as well as data from in-house computers. It is in use in some 300 banks and financial institutions worldwide.
 Reuters Holdings PLC (NASDAQ: RTRSY) provides a wide range of products and services for the delivery of financial information into open computer systems and networks through its Information Management Systems group. This group is responsible for the marketing and development of Reuters open terminal, system and datafeed products. It provides consultancy and systems solutions for clients who wish to integrate market data with other information technology requirements.
