REUTERS ACQUIRES STAKE IN ADVALUE MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES

NEW YORK, Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Reuters today announced it has acquired a minority equity shareholding in AdValue Media Technologies, a privately held, New York-based company which markets interactive transaction services to ad agencies, sales representatives, and media outlets in support of ad buying and selling.
Reuters initial $3.0 million investment is the first business development to arise in context of its recent announcement that it is forming Reuters NewMedia Inc., a U.S.-based company which will exploit opportunities in emerging markets for multi-media information services.
The AdValue Media Technologies system computerizes the ad buying and selling process, providing an efficient transactional market for the agencies, sales reps, TV and radio stations and networks on line.
A number of prominent advertising agencies and broadcast stations are active users of the AdValue tracking system which has processed some $200 million in advertising buys and sells since it was launched in August this year.
Reuters investment in AdValue Media Technologies brings it into partnership with Cambridge Technology Partners, Group W/Westinghouse Broadcasting, and Radnor Venture Partners.
Buford Smith, who assumes the title of President, Reuters NewMedia Inc., on Jan. 1, said: "This investment permits us to learn about the advertising industry. Reuters already has some knowledge of the ways in which technology helps create efficient markets. AdValue can draw on that knowledge to help make the media buying market more efficient."
Jonathan Klein, President, Group W Television, said: "We are extremely pleased to have Reuters as a partner in AdValue. It is our belief that the international advertising marketplace will grow in a pattern similar to that of financial services, supported by increasingly sophisticated transaction and analysis networks. Reuters media experience, and its knowledge of complex transaction systems, will add substantially to the company's ability to exploit that growth."
Reuters NewMedia Inc. begins official operation on Jan. 1, 1994, under the direction of Buford Smith who will report to Mark Wood, Executive Director and Editor-in-Chief, Reuters Holdings PLC (NASDAQ-NMS: RTRSY).
