 REPUBLIC WASTE INDUSTRIES REPORTS SUBSTANTIALLY
IMPROVED RESULTS FOR THE SECOND QUARTER OF 1992
ATLANTA, July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Republic Waste Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: RWIN; TSE) for the quarter ended June 30 reported a 237 percent increase in income from continuing operations to $2,471,000 from $732,000 for the same period last year on an increase in revenue from continuing operations of 11 percent to $28,185,000 from $25,417,000.
During the same periods, income from continuing operations before non-recurring charges increased 49 percent to $2,471,000 from $1,658,000.
Earnings per share were $.10 for the second quarter this year, compared to a loss of $.09 per share in the same quarter of 1991 after non-recurring charges and discontinued operations during that 1991 period. There were 25,775,000 shares outstanding during the period, an increase of 35 percent from 19,118,000 in 1991.
For the six months ended June 30, income from continuing operations, before non-recurring charges, increased 131 percent to $3,981,000 from $1,720,000 for the same six months last year on an increase in revenue from continuing operations of 15 percent to $53,621,000 from $46,757,000 during 1991. Earnings per share from continuing operations, before non- recurring charges, increased to $.16 per share for the six months from $.11 last year, while the weighted average number of shares increased to 25,235,000 from 17,187,000. As previously reported, Republic incurred certain merger costs relating to Stout and sold its excavating and demolition operations in May 1992 resulting in a large unusual charge for the first quarter.
M.G. DeGroote, CEO, stated, "The improved results quarter over quarter, and also the vast improvements over 1991, reflect the consistent growth in the solid waste group and the start towards positive results in the hazardous waste division since the reorganization of the Stout group of companies during the past few months."
Republic Waste Industries is an emerging waste service company serving the needs of a broad range of solid and hazardous waste generators in the North American environmental services industry.
