 REPUBLIC ENGINEERED STEELS ELECTS BOARD MEMBERS
 MASSILLON, Ohio, Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Carol A. Cartwright,


president of Kent State University, was elected a member of the board of directors of Republic Engineered Steels at its annual stockholder's meeting held late last week. Republic also reelected William J. Williams, chairman and chief executive officer of the Huntington National Bank, and Ray Marshall, former U.S. Secretary of Labor and currently professor of economics and public affairs at the University of Texas, to additional two-year terms on the board.
 Cartwright formerly served as vice chancellor for academic affairs and a professor for human development at the University of California at Davis. Prior to that she was a dean and vice provost of The Pennsylvania State University.
 In addition to the outside directors, one management and three union-employee directors were elected. Russell W. Maier, president and chief executive officer of Republic, was reelected to the board. The union-employee directors are:
 Richard C. Taylor from Republic's Canton 8th Street Plant; Steven P. DeLong from the Special Metals Plant in Canton, and Gary L. Cole from the Beaver Falls, Pa. Cold Finish Plant.
 The board of Republic, an employee-owned company, is made up of 13 members: four from management, four from the United Steelworkers and five from outside the company.
