REPAY DAIL TRAVEL CASH.

Byline: ALANA FEARON

By ALANA FEARON THREE TDs who used Dail allowances to attend anti-household charge events could be forced to repay the money.

The Oireachtas Service revealed last night that its legal advice confirmed taxpayer-funded allowances do not cover travel outside a deputy's constituency.

Controversy erupted this week after it emerged Socialist TDs Joe Higgins and Clare Daly and People Before Profit member Joan Collins used the funds to attend rallies and speaking engagements around the country.

Meanwhile, Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin accused Ms Daly of having a "brass neck" after she quizzed him on allowances and expenses in the Dail.

Mr Higgins will repay travel allowances if a watchdog rules he is in the wrong. He yesterday released details of what he spent the money on, a total of EUR935.
