RELIANCE ELECTRIC COMPANY ANNOUNCES NEW DIRECTORS

 CLEVELAND, Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Reliance Electric Company (NYSE: REE) announced today the election by its board of directors, effective Jan. 1, 1993, of two new directors of the company, Alfred M. Rankin, Jr. and L.J. Hendrix, Jr. The election of Rankin and Hendrix increases Reliance's board of directors to six members. Rankin was also elected a member of the company's Audit Committee.
 Alfred M. Rankin, Jr., age 51, is president and chief executive officer of NACCO Industries, Inc. whose headquarters is located in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. From 1989 to 1991, Rankin was the president and chief operating officer of NACCO. Prior to 1989, Rankin was the vice chairman and chief operating officer of Eaton Corporation. Rankin is also a director of The BFGoodrich Company, Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc. and The Standard Products Company.
 L.J. Hendrix Jr., age 51, is executive vice president and chief operating officer of Reliance Electric Company. Hendrix held the company offices of vice president of Corporate Development from 1986 to 1989 and operating vice president from 1981 to 1986. Hendrix joined the company in 1973. Hendrix is also a director of Keithley Instruments.
 Reliance Electric Company, headquartered in Cleveland, designs, manufactures, sells and services a broad range of industrial and telecommunications equipment. Reliance operates 48 manufacturing plants worldwide, in nine countries, and employs approximately 14,000 people.
