REICHHOLD CHEMICALS, INC. NAMES GAITHER CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- John S. Gaither has been appointed executive vice president and chief operating officer (COO) of Reichhold Chemicals, Inc. The announcement was made by Reichhold President and Chief Executive Officer Hiroshi Maeda.
Gaither, 48, has served as president of Reichhold's Emulsion Polymers Division since April 1990 and has chaired the company's Sales & Marketing Committee since 1991. He will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations at the $1 billion chemical manufacturer and leading the company into the 21st century.
Gaither began his career with Reichhold in 1967 as a sales trainee in Eastern Europe and was named vice president of European exports for Reichhold International in 1973. His positions with Reichhold also include vice president, international marketing and senior vice president, International. In 1984, he was named vice president, Resins & Binders Division and was appointed executive vice president of the same division in 1985. He was named president of the Reactive Polymers Division in 1986.
Gaither holds a B.A. degree from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. degree from Insead-Fountainebleau in France. He is fluent in German with a working knowledge of French.
"We believe Mr. Gaither's appointment will help stabilize Reichhold following a period in which the company moved its headquarters and laboratories to North Carolina, acquired and divested several businesses, and saw the retirement of Mr. Mitchell as president and CEO," said Mr. Maeda. "Mr. Gaither understands how to do business in North America as well as internationally, and is seen as a strong motivator and communicator who will stress quality and continuous improvement in the organization."
Immediately following his appointment as COO, Gaither named Douglas Frey to succeed him as president of Reichhold's Emulsion Polymers Division. Frey previously served as both vice president, manufacturing, and vice president, sales & marketing, for Emulsion Polymers. He has been with Reichhold since 1985 and joins the company's Corporate Management Committee. He will also report to Gaither. An internal search for Frey's successor is currently underway.
Reichhold is a leading North American producer of adhesives and polymers for the coatings, adhesives, paper, textile and composites markets. Its new $60 million corporate headquarters and research and development laboratories opened in Research Triangle Park, N.C. this year. The facility employs more than 500 researchers and administrative personnel, or slightly less than one quarter of the company's total work force.
