REHABCLINICS STARTS OPERATION OF MINNESOTA'S TWIN CITIES MANAGED CARE

VALLEY FORGE, Pa., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- RehabClinics, Inc. (NASDAQ: RCII), today announced it has recently launched a worker's compensation pilot program in Minnesota with Twin Cities Managed Care (TCMC). Twelve RehabClinics facilities in the Minneapolis and St. Paul area will participate in the program.
TCMC has been certified by the state of Minnesota as a managed care plan worker's compensation and is unique among the certified plans because it is run by healthcare professionals, skilled in work-related injuries. As a result of a 1992 amendment to the Minnesota worker's compensation law, the pilot program allows the employer to direct injured employees to pre-approved medical providers the same day as the injury. RehabClinics plays an important role in TCMC by providing those employees with the highest quality of care with immediate intervention and preventive services.
"We believe that this pilot program is an important step for RehabClinics. It provides us the ability to offer medical preventative services as well as immediate intervention on a managed care basis," said James New, president of RehabClinics. "This program provides high quality, effective care with economic advantages for both the employer in terms of less lost production time and for the employee with less time lost and less lost pay. It's a perfect fit in today's climate of cost containment in healthcare."
RehabClinics' strategy is designed to capitalize on the highly fragmented nature of the outpatient physical therapy industry. RehabClinics has established itself as one of the largest outpatient rehabilitation companies in the country with 106 clinics in 13 states.
