REGISTRY HOTEL ALL-STAR 'RANKING;' PLAYS HOST ONCE AGAIN
 TO CHAMPIONSHIP SPORTS TEAM
MINNEAPOLIS, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Some 400 Michigan Wolverines, athletic department staff and fans are checking into The Registry Hotel in suburban Bloomington, Minn., today and getting ready for the NCAA Final Four action that gets under way at the Metrodome Saturday night.
The hotel has played host to athletes and fans for no less than five major sports tournaments in the past year, and is the headquarters this weekend for the Wolverines from the University of Michigan, who square off against the University of Cincinnati.
The winner of that match-up meets with the winner of the Duke University-Indiana University game, with the finals scheduled for Monday night in Minneapolis.
The Registry Hotel is a deluxe property, well known as the top- choice business traveler's hotel located five minutes from Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport.
It's the official hotel of the Minnesota North Stars hockey team and has had a busy year as a championship headquarters -- starting with the Stanley Cup playoffs last spring.
It also served as a host or a headquarters hotel for the U.S. Open, the International Special Olympics, the World Series and the Super Bowl.
Jan Tucker, director of sales for The Registry, attributes its popularity among teams and fans to such special facilities in the hotel as a well-appointed health club, complete with indoor swimming pool; Ravels, a lively disco; an executive business center with board rooms and computer equipment, and oversized rooms and suites.
The hotel features such services as overnight shoe-shine, a concierge floor, complimentary Showtime and ESPN and complimentary newspapers.
When teams are in town, the hotel works with their trainers in order to provide for their special needs such as out-of-the-ordinary menu items, special audio-visual equipment for briefings, and heightened security. Telephone operators, bell staff, doormen and housekeeping staff get special instructions, as the hotel gears up to accommodate the privacy and security of the athletes.
"We'll also decorate the hotel in the team's colors, and bring in special entertainment or guest speakers at their request," Tucker notes.
Win or lose in the Final Four, the Wolverines are staying through Monday night, Tucker says. But she refuses to predict the outcome -- "I don't want to jinx them!" she says.
The Registry Hotel in Minneapolis is one of five Registry Hotel & Resorts. The chain, headquartered in Dallas, has other properties in Charlotte, N.C.; Naples, Fla.; Scottsdale, Ariz., and the Don CeSar in St. Petersburg Beach, Fla.
