Boat access improved at pond

HUBBARDSTON - The state Department of Fish and Game has completed $85,000 in improvements to the Comet Pond boat access facility on Route 62.

The reconstruction was carried out by Aearo Construction of Boylston and was supervised by the department's Office of Fishing and Boating Access, according to a news release. Funding came from the capital budget.

The improvements to the facility included work on the width, length and slope of the ramp and extra boarding floats to improve the entry to and exit from the pond. The 127-acre cold water pond, which has a maximum depth of 52 feet, is one of the most popular trout fishing ponds in the state. It also contains other species, including largemouth and smallmouth bass.

Boats using the pond are limited to 20 horsepower motors. Fishing also is available from the shore.
