MARLBORO - Firefighters yesterday spent nearly four hours battling a fire at a home at 373 Littlefield Lane which caused an estimated $400,000 in damage.
At about 3:51 p.m., Marlboro sent two engine companies, a ladder company and a rescue truck in response to several 911 calls. Firefighters from Southboro, Hudson and Sudbury also responded to the two-alarm fire, according to a news release from the Marlboro Fire Department.
One firefighter was injured while fighting the flames. He was brought to Marlboro Hospital, where he was treated and released. The Fire Department did not report any other injuries.
Lt. Ken MacEwen reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the second floor of the home when he arrived at 3:54 p.m. The second floor sustained extensive damage.
The fire was extinguished just after 7:30 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Marlboro Fire Department's Fire Investigation unit and the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
According to the assessor's office, the home was a four-bedroom colonial valued at $570,900. The owners are listed as Pradit Dev and Tiziana Rossi.
Voters OK senior center project
HUDSON - Voters on Tuesday gave overwhelming support to a $4.4 million Proposition 2-1/2 debt exclusion to pay for a renovation-expansion project at the senior center.
The vote was 3,802 in favor, and 1,732 opposed. Voters at a special town meeting in November agreed to place the proposal on the special presidential primary ballot.
The project will include the design, rehabilitation, construction, equipping, furnishing and addition of 14,000 square feet at the senior center at 29 Church St.
The town has used a $263,000 Community Development Block Grant to begin the design work.
Town Executive Assistant Paul Blazar said the debt exclusion will cost the average single-family homeowner about $60 the first year and decrease in subsequent years.
