REFUGEE'S BABY JOY.
AN ALGERIAN who was detained under the Terrorism Act and is now fighting to be allowed to stay in Scotland was yesterday celebrating the birth of his baby daughter.
Ali Serir, 28, and his Scots wife Karen, 31, were delighted with the arrival of little Aicha.
The bouncing baby was born in Glasgow two months after Mr Serir was released on bail to fight to be granted asylum in Britain.
Mr Serir was arrested at his flat in the Royston area of Glasgow, in February as part of an anti-terrorist operation.
He was never charged but was held in prison under the Terrorism Act for four months.
The former chef was also an illegal immigrant and faces being kicked out of the country.
But a deportation order was cancelled last month after his lawyers lodged a fresh application for asylum and he was granted bail.
Mr Serir has been in Britain since 2000 and married red-haired Karen last year.
