REFRESHING ICED TEA IDEAS FOR JULY 4TH ENTERTAINING
FAIRFIELD, Conn., June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Iced tea is making

headline news this Fourth of July holiday, with consumption rising as summer temperatures soar.
"Iced tea is currently enjoying a renaissance, accounting for more than 80 percent of all tea consumed in this country," says David Bigelow, co-president of R.C. Bigelow, Inc.
Marlene Sorosky, consultant to R.C. Bigelow and author of five cookbooks, including the Dessert Lover's Cookbook, says, "People are serving iced tea during the summer holidays at July Fourth picnics and Labor Day barbecues. Today, iced tea is available in a variety of new off-beat flavors, and there are a number of innovative products, such as quart-size iced tea bags, that make it more interesting and easier to prepare than ever," Sorosky says. In addition to new teas, Marlene says there are also exciting ways to garnish tea.
-- Place grapes, pineapple chunks, cherries or raspberries in ice cubes to creatively decorate drinks.
-- Place chunks of banana on ends of wooden skewers and freeze them to create fruit stirrers.
-- Edible flowers such as nasturtiums, lavender, pansies, borage or even lilacs bring a glass to life.
-- Use tall or high-ball glasses, goblets or red wine glasses to give the iced tea a different look.
-- Use tea in lieu of water for ice cubes and punch bowl ice rings to prevent drinks from getting watered down by high temperatures.
-- Create a tropical atmosphere with Hawaiian leis, exotic flowers, bright floral table linens for a change from the routine party or family dinner.
R.C. Bigelow, which markets iced tea in quart size tea bags, has recently introduced Tahitian Breeze Iced Tea, flavored with tropical fruits including passion fruit and papaya, lemon peel, rose hips, elderberries and rose hips. It also offers Orange and Spice Herb Tea, a tangy blend of orange and spice with rose hips and hibiscus flowers; Perfect Peach Herb Tea, a combination of rose hips, hibiscus flowers, peaches, spices, orange peel and lemon peel; Red Raspberry Herb Tea, features raspberries and apples blended with hibiscus and rose flowers and Plantation Mint, which is a special blend of black tea flavored with real garden mint and spearmint leaves.
The quart size tea bag can be used to create "fridge tea" or regular iced tea. To prepare refrigerator tea: Submerge one quart size tea bag per quart of cool water in container. Place the container in the refrigerator for two hours. Remove tea bag and serve.
To brew regular iced tea: Place one tea bag per quart of water into a kettle. Pour boiling water over the tea bag and steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove tea bag and serve over ice.
