REED EXHIBITION COMPANIES ANNOUNCES THE ACQUISITION OF SCAN-TECH

STAMFORD, Conn., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Reed Exhibition Companies (REC) announced today the acquisition of Scan-Tech, the world's leading trade show and conference on automatic data collection (ADC) strategies.
Scan-Tech was launched in 1982 by AIM, USA, the Automatic Identification Manufacturers Association, the industry trade association for developers, manufacturers and suppliers of ADC technology solutions. The event provides the industry with a vehicle for the exchange of information on automatic identification technology.
"We are very pleased to add Scan-Tech to our roster of events as it fits perfectly with our technology shows and conferences," explained Jim Alic, president of REC North America. "AIM has clearly taken the lead in promoting the growth of ADC technology and identifying new markets for the industry. Our penetration into the manufacturing, industrial, merchandising and technology industries provides us the leverage to deliver these new markets to Scan-Tech. We believe that with our expertise and in partnership with AIM and the industry, Scan-Tech's position as the world's leading event will be strengthened."
"The ADC industry has tremendous market growth potential and AIM, USA has refocused its efforts to further aid its members in realizing these market opportunities. We believe that REC will rapidly accelerate the growth of Scan-Tech and thereby provide additional marketing benefits to AIM members," said Bonney Stamper, president of AIM, USA.
REC met with AIM and industry leaders and presented their objectives for acquiring Scan-Tech. All present strongly endorsed the plan and committed their companies support for making Scan-Tech the nation's sole ADC technology event. On July 22-23, the AIM USA Board of Directors met and agreed that it is in the best interest of Scan-Tech, the members of AIM and the industry at large to find a strategic partner who would enhance and grow the event. With AIM as sponsor of the event, REC will provide the dedicated resources necessary for Scan-Tech's success. The board of directors and the membership voted overwhelmingly for REC to acquire Scan-Tech.
REC is the world's largest organizer of trade and public shows with a current portfolio of close to 300 events serving over 40 industries, many of which are considered market leaders by the industries themselves. These events are held in 27 countries throughout North America, Europe and Asia/Pacific and are organized by 28 REC offices in 19 countries. REC is a member of the Reed Elsevier group, one of the world's leading publishing and information companies.
The upcoming Scan-Tech is scheduled for Oct. 18-21 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.
