REED EXHIBITION COMPANIES ACQUIRES MEXICO'S FAPEZAL

 MEXICO CITY, March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Reed Exhibition Companies (REC), a world leader in the organization of exhibitions, announced today in Mexico City it has reached an agreement to acquire the exhibition business of Fapezal Comunicacion, S.A. de C.V., one of Mexico's leading trade show organizers.
 REC, with world headquarters in Newton, Mass., is a member of the Reed Elsevier group, one of the world's largest publishing and information companies.
 Fapezal's current management team, including founder and President Patricia Farias Barlow and Director General Ricardo Sanchez Aguilar, will assume the leadership role for Reed Exhibition Companies, S.A. de C.V., a new operating unit reporting to Jim Alic, president REC/North America, based in Stamford, Conn.
 Fapezal has organized trade shows in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Mexico, and Monterey, Mexico for the past nine years.
 "In view of the growing strength of the Mexican economy and the anticipated positive impact the North American Free Trade Agreement will have, both REC and Fapezal management are quite optimistic about the future of trade exhibitions in Mexico," said Phil Ullo, president and chief operating officer, Reed Exhibition Companies, worldwide operations.

 Events Fapezal has either produced or will produce this year include:
 -- Expo Hospital, a hospital and medical care products and services
 exhibition now in its sixth year, February 9-12;
 -- ComExpo, the ninth presentation of Mexico's leading computer and
 information technology event, February 23-26;
 -- ComExpo Telecom, Mexico's only event exclusively dedicated to
 telecommunications equipment, March 3-5;
 -- Expo Didactica, an education and training products and services
 exhibition, March 9-11;
 -- Expo Electronica '93, the 14th consumer electronics exhibition,
 May 25-28; and,
 -- MaquinaMex, being held for the 7th year, is Mexico's largest
 machine tool and manufacturing event, June 15-18.
 REC's current portfolio of nearly 300 events serve over 40 industries, many of which are considered market leaders by the industries themselves. These events are held in 26 countries throughout North America, Europe, and Asia/Pacific and are organized by 27 fully- staffed offices in 17 countries.
