REEBOK TO LAUNCH SLIDE REEBOK LATERAL MOVEMENT TRAINING PROGRAM

STOUGHTON, Mass., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Reebok International Ltd. (NYSE: RBK) has licensed Kneedspeed of Gresham, Oregon, the recognized expert in lateral movement training, an aerobic and cross training movement that has taken the 90's by storm. Kneedspeed will manufacture a lateral movement training device which will be sold under the "Slide Reebok" name.
Lateral movement training is a low-impact, high-efficiency, cardiovascular exercise that engages the muscles of the inner and outer thighs, hips, waist and buttocks. "Slide Reebok" is a six-or eight-foot long, two-foot wide reduced-resistance surface board with bumpers at either end.
After three years of extensive research and product development through Kneedspeed, this partnership with Reebok will result in a redesigned slide product, educational programming, communication materials and ongoing biomechanical studies at five universities to support the product's worldwide launch. This fall, Slide Reebok will be integrated into "Reebok University," a series of instructor seminars designed to teach fitness professionals new programs.
Using special "slide socks" made by Reebok, the participant pushes off from one end of the mat and glides with bent knees over to the other end in a skater-like position. The intensity of the side-to-side movement can be varied to provide challenging workouts for all participants regardless of their fitness or sports conditioning level.
Kneedspeed will manufacture and sell Slide Reebok(tm) training devices into health clubs and sports conditioning facilities. Reebok will market the boards through the Company's channels of distribution, team dealer network and, eventually, to consumers for home use.
"We are excited to be working with Reebok", said Gary Johnson of Kneedspeed. "In 1989, we took an activity that was highly specialized for skate training and rehabilitation and pioneered product and programming to bring this exciting activity to the sports training and general fitness communities. With Reebok's resources and depth of marketing experience, more people will have access to this method of training."
Reebok 's strategic alliance with Kneedspeed is an extension of the company's ongoing commitment to pioneering innovative sports and fitness training programs, such as the fitness phenomenon, the Step Reebok(tm) program, introduced by Reebok in 1989. "Slide Reebok which already has been tested at more than 250 health clubs nationwide, represents a perfect addition to Reebok's extensive line of products designed to enhance athletic performance," said Terry Tracey, director of marketing for Cross Training.
"Additionally, Slide Reebok allows competitive athletes training for sports such as hockey, football, baseball and tennis to improve their lateral speed and agility. There is no comparable conditioning exercise that effectively trains an athlete's lateral muscles like lateral movement training," stated Tracey.
Kneedspeed was founded in 1989 by Jeff Markland, a former professional football player, who turned to lateral movement training to rehabilitate a severe knee injury. His early experience led Jeff to manufacture and market lateral movement training devices to rehabilitation clinics and sports teams. The Kneedspeed boards and training programs attracted the attention of the fitness and aerobics industry, leading to a rapid expansion in sales to the nationwide health club market.
Currently many professional athletes and college teams are using lateral training in their sports conditioning regime.
