REEBOK TEAMS WITH BALLY'S -- STEP REEBOK EXPANDS TO WORLD'S LARGEST
HEALTH AND FITNESS ORGANIZATION
STOUGHTON, Mass., Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The Step Reebok(SM) program, the exercise activity that involves stepping on and off an adjustable platform while performing upper body toning movements, has been adopted by Bally's Health & Tennis Corporation (BHTC), the largest fitness organization in the world. This expansion, further testimony to the rapidly growing popularity of the Step Reebok program, reinforces Reebok's position as one of the country's most important fitness suppliers. Reebok is the educational provider and leader of the Step Reebok movement.
"Since its launch in October 1989, the Step Reebok program has become the fastest growing fitness movement in the world," explained Beth Rice, Reebok's director of women's fitness. "Our relationship with Bally's further strengthens our commitment to standardizing the instruction of Step Reebok worldwide."
There are currently more than 1.5 million Step Reebok participants in over 5,000 healthclubs throughout 40 countries. The popularity of the Step Reebok program is due in part to its accessibility, the time and energy efficiency of the workout, and its adaptability to participants of varying ages and physical abilities.
This January, in 15 cities nationwide, the Step Reebok Instructor Training Team will simultaneously train corps of BHTC instructors on how to safely and effectively bring Step Reebok into their classrooms. Additionally, Reebok will provide 15,500 (50 per club) Step Reebok steps, the equipment necessary to perform the Step Reebok workout, to Bally's Clubs across the country.
Don Wildman, BHTC's president & CEO explained, "We believe the addition of Step Reebok to our membership services represents Bally's strong commitment to maintaining our position at the forefront of the health and fitness industry. Bally's decision to introduce the Step Reebok program was based both on a desire to provide enhanced services to 3.8 million current members and to attracting new members." All 310 BHTCs will become Official Step Reebok Centers as of February 1992.
The Reebok/Bally's program will incorporate national cross- promotional opportunities for retailers, product incentives for Bally's membership sales representatives, and a $4 million print and television cooperative advertising program.
