REDUCED COSTS IN MICHCON CUSTOMERS' FUTURES
 DETROIT, July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Beginning January 1993, Michigan

Consolidated Gas Company (MichCon) residential customers will save more than $35 million annually -- an average of $30 per customer -- on the cost of gas under a plan recently filed with the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC). The plan will reduce the price of gas to $2.87 per thousand cubic feet (Mcf) from the $3.07 Mcf charged today.
"Changes in the way we will buy and store gas in the future will enable us to reduce our costs and those of our customers," said Howard L. Dow III, MichCon's vice president of Rates and Regulatory Affairs. "In addition, a new supply agreement between MichCon and our primary interstate supplier, ANR Pipeline Company, is currently pending before the FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission). If the agreement is approved, the savings to our customers will be twice as much."
Dow cited MichCon's increased use of storage capacity coupled with a reduction in the level of reserved interstate pipeline capacity as the primary reasons for the savings.
Dow added, "Under the new supply package with ANR, we will reduce the level of our interstate pipeline services by almost 60 percent. This reduction is made possible by increased reliance on our own storage capability and changes in market requirements that have occurred in recent years."
MichCon, a wholly owned subsidiary of MCN Corporation (NYSE: MCN), is a natural gas distribution, transmission, and storage company serving more than 1 million customers in 465 communities throughout Michigan.
