RED ROBIN SIGNS AGREEMENT TO ENTER JAPAN
Red Robin Burger & Spirits Emporium to open in Tokyo
IRVINE, Calif., April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Red Robin International, Inc., the Irvine, Calif.-based restaurant chain known for its legendary gourmet American burgers today has signed an agreement to open its first Red Robin Burger & Spirits Emporium in Tokyo, announced Bill Miller, president and chief operating officer of the company.
The restaurant is scheduled to open this fall.
The franchise agreement was signed by Red Robin and Tasuku Chino, president of Skylark of Japan, Ltd., owner and operator of more than 1,000 coffee shops and various Japanese-style restaurants in the Far East.
"Because of the number of its operations throughout the Far East, Skylark has access to the resources needed to make our Tokyo location successful," Miller said.
Miller expects that both American and Japanese employees will work at the Tokyo location. The menu will be written in both Kanji and English.
The Tokyo Red Robin Burger & Spirits Emporium will hold true to the successful blend of ingredients -- great food, a seemingly endless list of creative non-alcoholic (Mocktails) beverages, a festive environment and affordable prices -- that have helped make the chain among America's favorite casual-dining restaurants.
According to Miller, Red Robin's expansion is unique. Although many fast food chains have been successfully operating in the Far East, Red Robin is one of the first casual-dining sit-down American chain concepts to begin operations.
"Based on more than 10 years of working with restaurants operating in the Far East, I see casual-dining as the next successful generation of American-style restaurants in Asia," Miller said.
Miller noted that Red Robin will appeal to the same markets in Japan as it does in North America -- families, busy professionals and younger crowds.
Born in the late '60s as a hamburger and beer tavern frequented by Seattle's university crowd, Red Robin Burger & Spirits Emporiums have become synonymous with quality, value-priced dining. The company strives to maintain uncompromising quality, while continually offering a menu that reflects society's changing tastes -- as evidenced by its recent addition of lower calorie entrees such as the "Tempura Fish Burger" and the "Amazing Meatless Burger," and non-alcoholic beverages.
Red Robin International is the parent company to the 85 corporate and franchised Red Robin Burger & Spirits Emporiums locations across 13 states and Canada. The majority of Red Robin International is owned by Skylark of Japan, Ltd.
