RED CROSS STARLIGHT BALL GREETS NEW YEAR AT MELLON BANK CENTER
/ADVANCE/ PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- In spite of last week's fire at the 30th Street Station, the American Red Cross Starlight Ball welcomed in 1992 this evening at its new location, the Mellon Bank Center, 1735 Market St., here.
Honorary chairman for the event, Mayor-elect Edward G. Rendell, led more than 300 ball guests in offering a toast to the new year. Co- chairs of the event are: Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Kremp III, Thomas M. Miles, Missy Moyer, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph F. Paquette Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Harry G. Rieger Jr.
The 1991 Starlight Ball featured the theme of "Catch the Midnight Special." The guests enjoyed a gala dinner and evening of merriment and dancing in the lavishly decorated atrium of the Mellon Bank Center.
Funds raised from the event will go to support the programs and services of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter, American Red Cross. Last year, the Red Cross Disaster Services program responded to nearly 1,000 local disasters and provided assistance to more 1,500 area families.
"We are very grateful that Richard I. Rubin & Co., Inc., which manages the Mellon Bank Center, and Equitable Real Estate Investment Management, Inc., owners of the building, came forward on such short notice to offer Red Cross the use of such a wonderful facility for our event. It is fortunate that the facility works very well with the plans we had in place," said Frank Donaghue, chief executive officer of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Red Cross Chapter. "The atrium at Mellon Bank Center is a site that provided our guests a beautiful place to celebrate the start of a new year."
