RECYCLING AND LITTER PREVENTION GRANTS AWARDED

RECYCLING AND LITTER PREVENTION GRANTS AWARDED
 COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Frances S. Buchholzer,

director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) today announced that 133 Recycling and Litter Prevention Grants totalling $6,802,859 are being awarded across the state to implement recycling and litter prevention programs.
"These grants are administered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Division of Litter Prevention and Recycling (DLPR)," Buchholzer said. "The grants are part of an effort to assist local communities in their efforts to establish self-sufficient programs throughout the state."
According to Buchholzer, three types of grants were awarded by DLPR. They are:
-- Comprehensive Recycling and Litter Prevention Grants, which are awarded to local communities to develop and operate programs to meet the specialized needs of their area. The grants fund such activities as recycling promotion, litter collection and containment, enhanced litter law enforcement, public awareness and education.
-- Local Government Recycling Grants, which are awarded to local governments to establish community recycling centers or expand existing facilities.
-- Recycling Operations Grants, which are awarded to non-profit organizations to establish community recycling centers or expand existing facilities.
"Recycling and litter prevention make economic as well as environmental sense," Buchholzer said. "Recycling reduces solid waste handling and landfill costs, and cuts material and energy costs. A clean Ohio encourages tourism, attracts business and industry, creates jobs, saves tax dollars and promotes economic growth."
