RECORD SEAT SALE AT CME

 RECORD SEAT SALE AT CME
 CHICAGO, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The all-time mark for a full Chicago

Mercantile Exchange (CME) membership sale was shattered this morning, as a seat sold for $577,000. The previous record purchase price for a CME seat was $570,000, set on July 6, 1992.
CME Chairman Jack Sandner, noting that the seat sale was the third consecutive record set this year, said, "Membership prices are among the best gauges as to how the financial world values and uses our institution. Clearly, the fact that our seat prices are the highest in the world is a resounding vote of confidence in the CME's markets.
"Our open interest is setting records daily and is poised to break the four-million barrier, representing more than twice the dollar value of that at any other exchange in the world," Sandner added.
At 3,919,894 positions, the CME is by far the world's all-time leader in open interest. Moreover, Deutsche mark options, at 506,600 positions, on Tuesday became the third CME product to surpass a half million in open interest. Previously both Eurodollar futures and options had bettered the half-million mark. Currently there are 1,506,187 open positions in Eurodollar futures and 905,387 in Eurodollar options.
The best bid and offer for a CME seat are now $560,000 and $595,000, respectively.
