REALTORS CONDUCT STATEWIDE 'SHELTER PENNSYLVANIA' EFFORT TO AID HOMELESS

HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Association of REALTORS (PAR) is issuing a call to all Pennsylvanians to join together in participating in "Shelter Pennsylvania," sponsored by PAR and local Associations of REALTORS, during March 1 through June 30.
PAR President Richard J. Stampahar, CPM, of Pittsburgh, said Shelter Pennsylvania is the statewide community service program designed to help the homeless by linking local REALTOR Associations and the public with homeless organizations in their own communities.
"This observance is to illustrate our continued support for housing needs for the homeless and the value of owning a home," said Stampahar.
He said about 60,000 people are homeless in the commonwealth, according to the Coalition on Homelessness in Pennsylvania.
Stampahar pointed out that many of Pennsylvania's 56 local Associations of REALTORS will be implementing diversified activities that will benefit these needy people in their local communities during Shelter Pennsylvania.
Local Associations of REALTORS across the commonwealth will be conducting a wide range of community service projects to benefit the homeless. Some of these activities may include: food and clothing drives, fund-raising, and assisting with the building or revamping of a home.
Stampahar said, "Community service has been a longtime trademark of REALTORS. We believe it is our obligation as professionals and humanitarian duty as individuals to make our community a better place to live through many worthwhile projects."
"As REALTORS, we take pride in our state and local communities. We are committed to improving the quality of life through community service because REALTORS care and share," he stressed.
The "Voice for Real Estate in Pennsylvania," PAR is comprised of more than 26,500 members involved in all phases of real estate throughout the commonwealth.
