REALLY SUMTHING; Child genius studies maths degree at 12.
GRINNING Cameron Thompson looks just like any other 12 year old - but this whizzkid is studying for a DEGREE in maths.
Cameron already has A* GCSEs in maths and additional maths and was invited to study at the Open University on its BSc Honours course.
He is expected to graduate at 16.
Cameron is thought to have Asperger syndrome, a form of autism, and has astounded teachers with his abilities. But he still attends lessons with his mates at Maelor School in Wrexham, North Wales, and studies at night for his degree.
Dad Roderick, 35, and mum Alison, 32, first noticed he was a maths genius when, as a four year old, he began deep discussions with his infants' school teacher about negative numbers.
When he started secondary school, he took a special test in quantitative maths - and although the top score was 140, Cameron ended up with 141.
He started the introduction to his Open University degree course in February when he was 11.
The first full module started in October and was supposed to last until June - but he finished it in just seven weeks.
Dad Roderick, who studied maths at degree level, said: "Cameron is already well ahead of me. But all this has its challenges. We've thought for some time he has Asperger syndrome, so he has trouble dealing with other children."
The couple have two other children, 10-year-old Emma, who is severely handicapped, and eightyear-old Bethany, who has shown signs of sharing her brother's remarkable mental ability.
