REALITY(R) FEMALE CONDOM FIRST U.S. SHIPMENTS

JACKSON, Wis., July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Wisconsin Pharmacal Company, Inc. (NASDAQ: WPCI) announced that the first shipments of the REALITY female condom will take place this week to selected sexually transmited disease (STD), family planning clinics, Planned Parenthood clinics and other public sector institutions.
The first institutions to receive REALITY will include the following:
 Philadelphia Department of Health
 AIDS Project Los Angeles
Region IX Hemophilia Program, Children's Hospital Los Angeles
 Family Health International
Planned Parenthood of West Chester/Rockland Counties, N.Y.
Planned Parenthood of Passaic County, N.J.
These are the first shipments in the United States of a female condom approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA approved REALITY in May. Dr. Mary Ann Leeper, senior vice president for development, indicated that subsequent to approval, the company has received numerous inquiries from potential public and private sector customers.
At the time of approval in May, the company announced that it would begin shipments as soon as possible to public sector. The product is currently being manufactured at Wisconsin Pharmacal's facility which has limited capacity and shipments are being made on a prioritized basis.
Wisconsin Pharmacal held a ceremony at its Jackson, Wis., plant today to commemorate the first shipments of REALITY. John A. Wundrock, president and CEO of Wisconsin Pharmacal, indicated he was pleased at the interest from public officials as well as people in the health are profession who have noted the significance of this event.
At the ceremony, Mr. Wundrock received a Certificate of Appreciation from Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson. In a letter from Gov. Thompson to John Wundrock, he said, "Congratulations on the successful development of your latest new product -- REALITY. Your company invested more than five years in a research effort to commercialize this product, which will substantially benefit the public health and welfare." Also in a letter of congratulations, Congressman F. James Sensenbrenner Jr. of Wisconsin said, "The REALITY female condom is a unique product; one that will benefit people all over the world. Best of all, it is another example of ingenuity that comes from right here in Wisconsin. I am not alone in saying that you all can take great pride in your accomplishment."
At approval, Wisconsin Pharmacal and the FDA agreed on labeling to include the following:
-- Latex condoms for men are highly effective at preventing sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS (HIV infection), if used properly.
-- If you are not going to use a male condom, you can use REALITY to help protect yourself and your partner.
-- REALITY only works when you use it. Use it every time you have sex.
-- Before you try REALITY be sure to read the directions in the box and learn how to use it properly.
All contraceptives, including REALITY, must be used properly and consistently to achieve protection. Few truly new contraceptives have been approved in the last 10 years. Most are prescription products which protect only against pregnancy. REALITY is a new option and will be available to women without a prescription. "This is a serious product dealing with the serious issues of unintended pregnancy and STDs, including AIDS," Dr. Leeper said. "Studies show that only about 20 percent of women use male condoms. REALITY is another choice for those women who are not going to use a latex male condom."
Chartex International in London is the licensor and the world manufacturer of the product. Wisconsin Pharmacal and Chartex are in discussions with FDA to secure approval of the Chartex facility as the supplier for the U.S. market. National commercial distribution may begin following approval of the Chartex facility. The company, as previously noted, doesn't expect significant revenues until this occurs.
REALITY is the first and only female condom approved by FDA, the only product under a woman's control that helps to prevent unintended pregnancy AND sexually transmitted disease, including AIDS, and the first of a new class of products approved to help prevent AIDS since the epidemic began more than 10 years ago. REALITY provides women with a new option when their partners don't wear a latex male condom. Three U.S. patents have been issued for REALITY with the first expiring in the year 2005.
Wisconsin Pharmacal has the exclusive rights to market REALITY in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
