RAYTHEON WINS HAWK UPGRADE CONTRACT

 RAYTHEON WINS HAWK UPGRADE CONTRACT
LEXINGTON, Mass., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company

(NYSE: RTN) announced today that it has received an initial $26.9 million production contract to upgrade the Hawk air defense missile system. The upgrade, developed jointly by the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps, enables the Hawk system to be more efficiently airlifted and maneuver more quickly with ground forces.
Under the contract, Raytheon will provide upgrades for 52 Hawk missile launchers -- 36 for the U.S. Marine Corps and 16 for the government of Sweden.
The launchers will be modified so that three ready-to-fire missiles will be transported on a launcher as ground troops move from one point to another in carrying out a mission. The enhancement also reduces the number of vehicles required to transport a Hawk fire unit which in turn reduces the support costs.
The upgrade will also add a new remote-launch capability to the Hawk system.
Raytheon will perform the work, scheduled to be completed by June 1995, at its Andover, Mass., manufacturing plant.
Hawk is a medium-altitude surface missile defense system deployed by the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps., and 20 allied nations. The U.S. deployed 25 Hawk fire units to the Middle East during Operation Desert Storm.
Raytheon, headquartered in Lexington, Mass., is a $9.3 billion diversified technology company with sales in four business segments: Electronics, Aircraft Products, Energy and Environmental, and Major Appliances.
