RAYTH ?WINS GROUND BASED RADAR CONTRACT
 LEXINGTON, Mass., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Army's Space

Strategic Defense Command has awarded a $26.8 million contract to Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) for a demonstration array containing advanced technology microwave components for possible use in future Ground Based Radar systems.
Under terms of the 39-month contract, Raytheon's Equipment Division will design, fabricate, and test advanced solid state transmit/receive (T/R) modules in an antenna array to prove their readiness for use in theater and national missile defense radars of the late 1990s.
Engineering, design, integration and testing will be performed at Raytheon's Equipment Division engineering facility in Wayland, Mass. The Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) devices and T/R modules will be produced at Raytheon's Advanced Device Center in Andover, Mass., with coproduction at Texas Instrument in Dallas.
This technology program complements another Ground Based Radar contract awarded recently to Raytheon. The company last month was awarded a $491 million contract, with an additional $124 million in options, for radars to be used both for regional conflicts and for U.S. national missile defense.
"This contract further reinforces Raytheon's role as a source of phased array radar technology for ballistic missile defense," said Walter H. Stowell, Raytheon senior vice president and general manager of the Equipment Division. "It's a role we've performed for the past 30 years, and we look forward to making continuing contributions to the program into the next century."
Raytheon, based in Lexington, Mass., is a $9.3 billion diversified technology company with sales in four business sectors: Electronics, Aircraft Products, Energy and Environmental, and Major Appliances.
