RAYTHEON WINS $11.5 MILLION ADDITION TO SPARROW CONTRACT
LEXINGTON, Mass. Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) today announced that the U.S. Navy has awarded the company an $11.5 million contract for an additional 78 AIM/RIM-7P Sparrow Missile guidance and control sections.
The new contract supplements a $37.4 million contract awarded to Raytheon in July for 244 Sparrow guidance and control sections under terms of the foreign military sales program.
The awarding authority, the Naval Air Systems Command, said it received two proposals for the competitive contract.
Work for the 78 new systems will be carried at Raytheon's Lowell, Mass., plant, and is scheduled for completion by May, 1995.
The initial contract covered the sale of Sparrow Missiles to NATO and the governments of Australia and Kuwait. The contract also included ancillary Sparrow equipment for other allied nations already deploying Sparrow, including Turkey, Israel, and South Korea.
Sparrow is a supersonic, radar-homing missile used on ships and fighter aircraft of the United States and 21 friendly countries. Raytheon has delivered more than 55,000 Sparrows to the U.S. military since the company conceived the missile in the 1950s.
Raytheon, headquartered in Lexington, Mass., is a $9.3 billion, diversified technology company with sales in four business segments: Electronics, Aircraft Products, Energy and Environmental, and Major Appliances.
