RAYTHEON UNIT MAKES ENGINEERING ACQUISITIONS

LEXINGTON, Mass. Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE:RTN) today announced that its United Engineers & Constructors International, Inc. (UE&C) subsidiary has acquired three engineering businesses from Gibbs & Hill, Inc. of New York, a privately-owned company.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In the first transaction, United Engineers Far East Ltd., a UE&C International subsidiary, has acquired all the shares in Gibsin Engineers Ltd., of Taipei, Taiwan, previously held by Gibbs & Hill.
Gibsin Engineers is a 300-person engineering firm established in 1979 as a joint venture between Gibbs & Hill and Taiwan's Sinotech Foundation for Research and Development of Engineering Sciences and Technologies.
Gibsin, which has annual sales of approximately $17 million, provides comprehensive engineering services for power plant and industrial projects in Taiwan and other Far East countries.
In the second transaction, UE&C Urban Services, Inc., a UE&C subsidiary, has acquired the assets of the transportation group of Gibbs & Hill.
The Gibbs & Hill transportation group is a leader in mass transit and light rail systems and has project experience with virtually every major transit agency in the United States. The group recently provided systems integration design services for the new St. Louis Metro Link and is currently supporting Washington Metro expansion projects.
The group, based in New York, employs 40 people and has annual sales in the $6 million range. It will now become the Gibbs & Hill Division of UE&C Urban Services, which will also consist of the UE&C Jackson & Moreland architectural group in Boston, Mass., and the UE&C airport services and infrastructure group in Denver, Colo.
In the third transaction, UE&C acquired the assets of Gibbs & Hill's New York-based power business, which has 50 employees and annual sales of approximately $5 million.
"These acquisitions broaden our presence in the Far East and in the infrastructure services market, as well as add to our established strength in power plant projects," said Charles Q. Miller, UE&C president and CEO.
United Engineers & Construction International, headquartered in Philadelphia, provides engineering, construction, maintenance, and environmental services through its subsidiaries to a broad range of industries throughout the world.
