RAYTHEON UNIT COMPLETES WATER MANAGEMENT PROJECT FOR TEXASGULF

LEXINGTON, Mass., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The Badger Company, a unit of Raytheon Company, (NYSE: RTN) recently completed the design and construction of a major water management project for the Phosphate Operations of Texasgulf, Inc., a processor of phosphate rock for fertilizers and subsidiary of Elf Aquitaine.
The $28 million project created a large water recycling system for the entire processing facility, located on the Pamlico River near Aurora, N.C.
A series of new and existing ponds will store process water and storm water for reuse in plant operations.
Water usage in the manufacturing facility will be reduced from 40,000 gallons per minute to 7,000 gallons per minute.
The new water management system is designed to reduce phosphate discharges by 90 percent and fluoride discharges by 75 percent.
The system will enable Texasgulf to meet its new National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit requirements.
Only storm water from non-process areas and clean water from the plant's cooling system will be discharged from the site.
Raytheon, based in Lexington, Mass., is a $9 billion diversified technology company with sales in four business segments: Electronics, Aircraft Products, Energy and Environmental, and Major Appliances. Badger is part of the Energy and Environmental segment.
