RAYTHEON TEAM AWARDED $5 MILLION BALLISTIC MISSILE DEFENSE CONTRACT

 LEXINGTON, Mass., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The newly-established Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) Organization has awarded a $5 million contract to a team led by Raytheon Company to develop battle management/command, control, and communications (BMC3) systems for ballistic missile defense.
 The 15-month contract calls for three demonstrations to validate the development process. Once developed, the BMC3 system will provide the means to control and integrate all BMD systems, weapons, and sensors.
 The Raytheon team, which brings to the project more than 30 years of missile defense experience, is led by the Raytheon Systems Development Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary encompassing representation from three Raytheon divisions: Missile Systems, Equipment, and Submarine Systems.
 Other team members include Loral Command and Control Systems of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Rockwell International Strategic Center of Seal Beach, Calif.; Digital Equipment Corporation of Maynard, Mass; ALPHATECH, Inc., of Burlington, Mass.; General Research of Huntsville, Ala; and W.J. Schafer Associates of Arlington, Va.
 William H. Swanson, president of the Raytheon Systems Development Company, declared, "We look forward to working with the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization to solve the complex challenges of providing continous protection of worldwide U.S. national security interests against limited ballistic missiles from whatever source."
