 RAYTHEON NAMES ALFRED M. ZEIEN TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS
 LEXINGTON, Mass., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company announced


today that Alfred M. Zeien, chairman and chief executive officer of The Gillette Company, has been named to Raytheon's board of directors.
 "We are very pleased to have an individual with the depth and breadth of Mr. Zeien's business acumen join our board," said Dennis J. Picard, Raytheon's chairman and chief executive officer. "His great knowledge of and long experience in the international marketplace and his wide-ranging management talents will be a significant resource to Raytheon Company."
 Zeien, 62, became Gillette's chairman and chief executive officer in
February 1991. He previously had served as Gillette's president and chief operating officer since January 1991. Between 1987 and 1991, he served as vice chairman, Gillette International/Diversified Operations.
 Zeien began his career with Gillette in 1968 and the following year was appointed general manager of the international division of Braun AG, the company's German-based subsidiary. In 1973 he was made a group vice president of the Diversified Companies group, based in Boston.
 In 1974 Zeien returned to Braun AG as general manager of the Household Appliance division. He was elected chairman of the Braun board of management in 1976. He was elected senior vice president, technical operations, of Gillette in 1978 and promoted to vice chairman, technical operations and new business development in 1981.
 Zeien is a director of the Bank of Boston, Polaroid Corporation, Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, and the Repligen Corporation and is a trustee of University Hospital, Boston.
 He holds a bachelor of science degree from the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture and attended the master's degree in business administration program at Harvard University.
 Zeien and his wife, the former Joyce Valerie Lawrence, reside in Boston.
 Zeien's appointment increases the size of Raytheon's board of directors to 13 members.
 Raytheon, headquartered in Lexington, is a $9.3 billion diversified technology company with sales in four business segments: electronics, aircraft products, energy and environmental, and major appliances.
