RAYTHEON EXECUTIVE RE-ELECTED NAVY LEAGUE PRESIDENT

RAYTHEON EXECUTIVE RE-ELECTED NAVY LEAGUE PRESIDENT
WAYLAND, Mass., July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- William C. Kelley Jr.,

marketing manager for Area Air Defense and Surveillance Programs with Raytheon Company in Wayland, has been re-elected to the office of national president of the Navy League of the United States (NLUS).
His nomination and re-election were approved unanimously by the NLUS board of directors at the recently concluded Navy League National Convention held June 26-30 at the Marriott Financial Center Hotel in New York. Kelley's second one-year term as head of the prestigious national patriotic organization, which supports all of the U.S. sea services, will conclude at the close of the league's 1993 national convention next summer in Washington.
As national president of the 75,000-member organization, founded in 1902 with the support of President Theodore Roosevelt, Kelley will act as the chief executive officer of the Navy League and preside over the annual meeting, board of directors meetings and Steering and Executive committees.
Kelley stated that his "number one priority" has been and will be to focus on the Navy League's basic mission: educating the American people about the importance of U.S. seapower. "During the remainder of my term as national president," he said, "I want to continue our policy of focusing our efforts on making our fellow citizens aware of the enormous contributions that America's maritime services -- the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine -- make to U.S. national security and America's economic well-being."
In an era of declining defense budgets and a general downsizing of America's defense establishment, he said, "the sea services need the support of the Navy League and other patriotic organizations more than ever before if we are to remain strong as a maritime nation."
The Navy League of the United States has nearly 350 councils throughout the United States and overseas; its headquarters is in Arlington, Va., just outside of Washington.
