RAYTHEON AWARDED $294 MILLION CONTRACT FOR AMRAAM MISSILES

LEXINGTON, Mass., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Air Force has awarded a $294 million contract to Raytheon Company to produce 614 Advanced Medium Range Air-To-Air (AMRAAM) missiles.
The contract, which represents increases of $20 million and 74 missiles over Raytheon's 1992 AMRAAM allocation, will maintain production rates at more than 50 missiles per month for the next two years at the company's manufacturing facility in Lowell, Mass.
Raytheon has received a series of contracts calling for the delivery of more than 2,500 AMRAAMs over the past seven years. The company said it is ahead of schedule on its current production run, adding that reliability is better than required by the Air Force.
The latest contract covers 420 missiles for the Air Force and 69 for the U.S. Navy, along with foreign military sales to the United Kingdom, South Korea, Turkey, and NATO.
AMRAAM is a lightweight, all-weather, radar-guided missile that can be launched beyond visual range and guided to its target autonomously.
Raytheon, headquartered in Lexington, Mass., is a diversified, $9 billion, technology-based international company with sales in four business segments: Electronics, Aircraft Products, Energy and Environmental, and Major Appliances.
