RAYTHEON AWARDED $113 MILLION PATRIOT CONTRACT
LEXINGTON, Mass. Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Army Global

Protection Against Limited Strikes (GPALS) Program Executive Office has awarded Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) a $113 million contract through the U.S. Army Missile Command to manufacture modification kits to upgrade the Patriot air defense system.
Raytheon developed the kits under the Army's Quick Response Program, which was established to improve Patriot based on lessons learned during Operation Desert Storm.
One set of kits will significantly improve Patriot's radar sensitivity and its ability to counter low-flying air threats in all types of environments. A separate set of kits will be inserted in Patriot radars and launchers to provide position data automatically, enabling Patriot to be more quickly set up and ready to operate in the field.
Raytheon will build the kits at its Andover, Mass., plant and deliver them in 1993 and 1994.
Raytheon, headquartered in Lexington, Mass., is a $9.3 billion diversified technology company with sales in four business segments: Electronics, Aircraft Products, Energy and Environmental, and Major Appliances.
