RAYTHEON'S BEECH UNIT WINS MIDWEST EXPRESS ORDER FOR 12 1900D AIRLINERS

WICHITA, Kan., Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Milwaukee-based Midwest Express has ordered 12 Beech 1900D stand-up cabin airliners, worth roughly $50 million, for use in its upper midwest hub and spoke operation. They will be delivered in 1994.
"We chose the 1900D based on its stand-up cabin, and its outstanding record of reliability and performance," said Peter J. Van Hoof, vice president of Midwest Express.
The 1900Ds differ from earlier 1900-series aircraft in having passenger cabins which are 14 inches taller, thereby providing stand-up head room. In addition, the 1900Ds feature more powerful Pratt & Whitney PT6A jetprop engines, providing increased cruising speed and improved per-mile operating cost.
The 1900D has proven to be enormously popular, capturing more than 75 percent of the U.S. market for 19-passenger regional airline aircraft last year. Beech has delivered more than 70 1900Ds since its introduction in late 1991.
Beech Aircraft, a unit of Raytheon Company(NYSE: RTN), is a leading aviation company. Beech manufactures, markets and supports piston- powered, jetprop and light jet aircraft for the world's business, military, and regional airline markets.
Raytheon is a $9 billion diversified technology company with sales in four business segments: Electronics, Aircraft Products, Energy and Environmental, and Major Appliances.
