RAYNET'S 'RIDES' OS SOFTWARE NOW TO SUPPORT FIVE SUPPLIERS FOR FIBER IN THE
LOOP; THREE MORE SUPPLIERS SIGN WITH RIDES BUSINESS UNIT
MENLO PARK, Calif., June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Raynet Corp. and its RIDES(R) business unit, today announced that it has signed vendor support agreements with ADC telecommunications, Reliance Comm/Tec, and BroadBand Technologies to provide these companies with an interface for their local loop systems to the Raynet RIDES operations support system (OSS). These companies join DSC Access Products in the RIDES Vendor Integration Program. RIDES software provides telcos with automated, flow-through provisioning, alarm monitoring, and other high-productivity operations features for fiber-in-the-loop (FITL) and other intelligent loop equipment systems.
"Our telephone company customers have been telling the industry for some time that tomorrow's fiber network will be a multi-vendor environment that requires a standard OSS," said Barbara Bauer, vice president and general manager of the RIDES business unit. "We believe RIDES is a logical choice for multi-vendor loop operations support. In response to our customers, Raynet formed this separate business unit and decided to make RIDES available to other loop fiber equipment vendors."
Continued Bauer, "Raynet co-developed RIDES with BellSouth and has benefited from the other RBOCs' input throughout RIDES' evolution and its extensive field experience, which now includes six of the seven Bell regions. FITL systems enable telcos to place intelligent nodes throughout the local loop network, and RIDES enables them to remotely control and monitor these nodes. Operations that used to require truck dispatches and manual work in the field can now be performed remotely by RIDES, thereby reducing the telcos' operating expenses and improving service response time for telephone customers." RIDES Business Unit
The RIDES business unit is now located in its own building and headquarters, and can be contacted at the following address: 230 Constitution Drive, Menlo Park, CA 94025. The RIDES unit held its first users' group meeting for all telco customers and vendor partners on May 9, 1992, at the RIDES headquarters.
