RAYCOM TO TELEVISE 16 ILLINOIS BASKETBALL GAMES

RAYCOM TO TELEVISE 16 ILLINOIS BASKETBALL GAMES
 CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Raycom, the nation's leading

independent sports programmer, will televise 16 University of Illinois basketball games during the 1992-93 season.
For the fifth straight year, Raycom will televise the games in five markets including Chicago, Champaign and Peoria.
Raycom's coverage of Fighting Illini basketball begins Dec. 3 with a 7 p.m. (Central) match-up against Illinois-Chicago. Raycom will also carry both games against Michigan, ranked second in Street & Smith's Top 25 pre-season poll (Jan. 23 and March 10) and third-ranked Indiana (Jan. 16 and Feb. 17).
The 21st-ranked Fighting Illini have been picked to finish near the top of what many consider to be America's toughest conference. Coach Lou Henson's squad will be led by pre-season All-Big Ten pick Deon Thomas, a 6-9 junior post player who averaged 19.4 points a game last year. The excellent outside shooting of junior Tom Michael (12.5 ppg) and senior Andy Kaufmann should open up the middle for Thomas. Illinois also boasts a returning backcourt of juniors Rennie Clemons (11.1 ppg) and T.J. Wheeler (10.3 ppg) and one of the nation's top recruits in guard Richard Keene.
Steve Kelly will handle play-by-play duties with Doug Altenberger providing color analysis for the Raycom telecasts.
Based in Charlotte with offices in New York, Chicago and Dallas, Raycom produced and televised a record-number 413 college basketball games last year. Its basketball properties include regional networks for the Big Eight, Big Ten, Pac-10, Metro Conference, Southwest conference and, in association with JP Sports, the Atlantic Coast Conference. As part of its Big Ten agreement but separate from its Big Ten coverage, Raycom televises selected games for each of the 11 conference schools.
Raycom will also produce 30 games for ABC Sports in which a combination of regional and national games will be televised to 95 percent of the country over ABC stations. All total, Raycom annually produces and televises more than 500 live sporting events and related studio shows.
