RAYCOM TO TELECAST MICHIGAN/MICHIGAN STATE BASKETBALL GAMES

RAYCOM TO TELECAST MICHIGAN/MICHIGAN STATE BASKETBALL GAMES
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Raycom, the nation's No. 1 independent sports programmer, will telecast a total of 10 University of Michigan and Michigan State University regular-season games for the 1991-92 basketball season.
With only one player gone from last year's starting lineup, and a recruiting class ranked first in the nation by HOOP SCOOP magazine, the Michigan Wolverines have much to look forward to this season. Forward Chris Webber, least year's MVP of the McDonald's High School All-America game, leads a pack of talented recruits, including Jalen Rose, Juwan Howard and Jimmy King -- all McDonald's All-America players. Experience returns in 7-0 center Eric Riley, guards Kirk Taylor and Michael Talley and forwards Sam Mitchell and James Voskuil.
Michigan State is relying on its four returning upperclassmen to boost its predicted fourth-place standing in the conference. Players to watch will be seniors Matt Steigenga, Mike Peplowski, Mark Montgomery and freshman forward Anthony Miller, who missed last season because of Proposition 48 regulations.
Tim Staudt will be the play-by-play announcer, with George Pomey and Greg Kelser providing the color analysis for the Michigan and Michigan State seasons.
Raycom, based in Charlotte with offices in New York, Chicago and Dallas, is a specialist in regional networks for college sports. Last year, Raycom carried 334 college basketball games on an over-the-air network covering 80 percent of the country. Recently, Raycom reached an agreement to handle all programming of ABC network college basketball -- selecting the teams, selling the advertising and producing the broadcasts.
