RAT BOY BARROWLAND, GLASGOW, 31.01.18.

CHAOTIC, anarchic, rough and ready, Rat Boy put on a high-energy show to whip up his young crowd.

The Essex musician - real name Jordan Cardy - has built a solid fanbase with a mix of hip-hop, indie rock and punk, with some ska mixed in for good measure.

Cardy, 21, came across as an angry young man mixed with cheeky chappy as he belted out his take on working class life and adolescent troubles.

The Barrowland crowd - a mad sea of bobbing young girls perched on shoulders - hung on to every word throughout. Rat Boy's EP Civil Disorder debuted less than a week ago but the fans sang along like it was an old favourite. The poppy-sounding I'll Be Waiting and Laidback were the highlights of a wild night.

Rat Boy is already picking up awards and he has been tipped for great things. If he's raw, it's not necessarily a bad thing.
