RAPID CHANGES IN RUSSIA NOW TRACKED ON SOFTWARE

GONZALES, La., Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- With the Russian Parliament on a rampage and economic changes wreaking havoc across the Russian landscape, a small Louisiana company today released "Who's Who in Russia," the first software product in the USA designed to keep up with the rapid changes in Russia.
Following a year of program development, a spokesman for D.N. Young & Associates, Inc., said the software is maintained by a staff of 20 programmers in Moscow and gives users instant access to approximately 50,000 Russian decision makers. "It's the first comprehensive push button database of Russia on the market," company President David N. Young said.
Young said his company has acquired worldwide rights of the software from New Russia Real Estate Corp., a Russian company headed by former Moscow physicist Iouli Mastitski.
The PC software features the entire Yeltsin cabinet, the Council of Ministers, the Ministry staffs and many of the legislative and state committees of Russia, Young said. Additionally, all of Russia's 71 regions are included along with 20,000 former state enterprises, 25,000 businessmen, and all banks, insurance companies, stock and brokerage exchanges and all active joint ventures are indexed in the Russian software, he added.
Young said the software includes "coast to coast" data from 4,421 cities and towns throughout Russia. The software features a map of Russia on which users can simply click on any region in which they want to "search." Everything from Boris Yeltsin's staff to the Church of Russia and 20,000 former state enterprises in-between are cross-indexed for the software users, Young said. Also, he said, the software switches from English to Russian at the push of a button and former state enterprises can be searched using nearly 1,600 product and by- product names.
The software users will get updated diskettes every three months for $69, Young said. Once the new diskettes are loaded, users will have access to the latest changes in a rapidly changing country. He said the product was designed to provide an alternative to written "directories" which go quickly out of date.
Young said he was especially proud of the fact that the software has been chosen to be featured by the U.S. Department of Commerce's new BISNIS CENTER (Business Information Service for the Newly Independent States) in Washington, adding that the software would be unveiled at a reception Wednesday hosted by Commerce Secretary Barbara Franklin.
The software is priced moderately at $499, compared to over $5,000 for the closest competitor. "It's the Sam Walton philosophy," said Young, "price it low and keep your competitors out of the market." Young said the software is being sold across the USA and that negotiations are already underway with potential distributors in Korea and Japan.
Currently available for PC-based DOS operating systems only, Young said a Macintosh version of the program is under development but won't be on the market any time soon.
