RANGER OIL ANNOUNCES GAS DISCOVERY OFFSHORE U.S. GULF OF MEXICO

 CALGARY, Alberta, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Ranger Oil announces that it has participated in its third commercial gas discovery, offshore in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The most recent discovery on Mustang Island, Block 782, is in 146 feet of water and is within one mile of pipeline infrastructure. The full extent of the discovery will be determined by further drilling and a second well has now commenced. First production from this discovery is expected as early as mid-summer 1994. Ranger's working interest in this block is 33 percent.
 Two discoveries made earlier in the year in the Gulf of Mexico are expected to commence production in November 1993 at an estimated 7 million cubic feet per day, net to Ranger. The company plans to expand its exploration efforts in the Gulf of Mexico in 1994.
