RANDALL CHANG NAMED PRESIDENT OF CITY BANK, THE PRINCIPAL OPERATING UNIT OF CB BANCSHARES, HAWAII

 HONOLULU, July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- James M. Morita, chairman, president and chief executive of CB Bancshares, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: CBBI), Hawaii's fourth largest bank, announced that Randall O. Chang, 47, was named president of City Bank, the principal operating unit of Bancshares. The post had been held by Mr. Morita on an interim basis following the retirement of the former president of the bank last November.
 Mr. Chang has been senior vice president of Daiwa Bank, Los Angeles, and before that held senior executive positions with Union Bank, Los Angeles. His broad experience includes: managing all of the domestic and foreign credit lines, and treasury operations of a major banking operation for Daiwa in Los Angeles; supervising of loan facilities to more than 300 foreign institutions and a large organization of U.S., and foreign employees for Union Bank. He began his career at Bank of America in San Francisco and Manila.
 "Mr. Chang's experience and abilities will further strengthen our management team as we continue to implement the strategic plan announced in 1992 to grow our business and profitability," Mr. Morita said.
 CB Bancshares last week announced a definitive agreement to acquire Hawaii's International Holding Capital Corp., which holds International Savings and Loan Association. When completed, CB Bancshares' assets will total $1.2 billion.
 Mr. Chang, who was born in Hawaii and graduated from Punahou School in Honolulu, holds a Ph.D. in economics and history from Claremont Graduate School; and a B.A. and M.A. from California State University at San Francisco. He is on the faculty of Loyola Marymount University's Graduate School of Business.
 CB Bancshares is the fourth largest bank holding company in Hawaii and parent of City Bank, Honolulu, a state-chartered commercial bank operating 12 branches on three islands. Its primary clients are small- to mid-sized businesses and retail customers.
